Lynne Ramsay is an acclaimed Scottish filmmaker known for her deeply atmospheric, emotionally charged storytelling and distinctive visual language. Her films explore the complexities of memory, trauma, family, identity, and human connection with a rare intimacy and intensity. From her breakthrough feature Ratcatcher to Morvern Callar, starring Samantha Morton, Ramsay established herself early as a filmmaker with an extraordinary ability to draw raw, deeply internal performances from her actors. She went on to direct Tilda Swinton, John C. Reilly, and Ezra Miller in the psychologically charged We Need to Talk About Kevin, followed by Joaquin Phoenix in thevisceral and haunting You Were Never Really Here. Her most recent feature, Die My Love, stars Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson alongside Lakeith Stanfield, Sissy Spacek, and Nick Nolte, bringing together an exceptional ensemble for Ramsay’s exploration of motherhood, isolation, desire, and the unraveling of a relationship.

Ramsay’s singular voice was evident from the very beginning of her career. Her early short films Small Deaths, Kill the Day, and Gasman established many of the themes and visual qualities that would come to define her work. Small Deaths, her graduation film from the National Film and Television School, won the Jury Prize at Cannes, while Gasman further cemented her reputation as a filmmaker of remarkable visual and emotional precision. She later directed Swimmer, a lyrical black-and-white short commissioned in connection with the 2012 London Olympics, and Brigitte, an intimate documentary portrait of celebrated photographer Brigitte Lacombe.
