This atmospheric film from director Keenan Wetzel tells the story of Stephen Yellowtail – a young Native American cowboy looking for meaning in his life. Shot in Wyoming and Montana, ‘Yellowtail’ transports the viewer to the wild, timeless landscape as the young man questions his chaotic lifestyle.
Shot in 35mm, the film has a nostalgic quality which is enhanced by the central figure’s steady voiceover, carrying a calmness which transcends his years. Featuring an entirely non-actor cast and accompanied by music from Alaskan Tapes, this thoughtful piece of work reflects on how looking inwards and outwards can sometimes be one and the same.
